What happened to the wonderful days of Sgdotnet - where there were lots of people and lots of interesting topics being discussed? Nowadays, the forum is so stale and filled with BoB posts, classifieds and advertisements. Where are all the sgdotnet-ians?

It seems that everyone is busy now. BOB is the main event now thus the activity.

Felt the same way too... it is rather sad now... perhaps because there are too many international and more established .net forums around that people usually go to for answers and posting questions? I mean, I have seen people posting the same questions in many different forums.

Perhaps we can advertise ourselves more during local events, get more involved in these events, or even showcase some stuff. Or maybe we need to differentiate ourselves from other .net forums? Just my thoughts...

The glory of forum (or online) interactions has past for Sgdotnet. Much as I like, I think the brain juice of the past have not been returning and we've only got a few old-brokes still ploughing the forums regularly.

And with much of the council being more-than-busy w/their daily jobs, we're pretty much left w/bare-bones operational team (no excuses still).

Nevertheless, I'm personally committed to keep this usergroup running - SGDN is much more than just _online_ interaction, it's lots of offline interaction as well. Our monthly ug meetings are still running, we did a VS 05 launch last year and we're planning for L.O.V.E next year too.

Still, any feedback and inputs to "spike" online interaction would be appreciated -> I'm always at your service.

I think all those who are passionate about the community should come together, and discuss how can we move/advance SGDOTNET to the next level, and also to increase the discussion activity within the forum.

At the same time, I think we should humbly learn from all the .Net usergroups in the region, and share ideas on how to run usergroups and motivate developers in contributing back to the community.

Right now, SGDOTNET is also foraying into reaching out to passionate .Net student developers (hence BOB, as well as bi-monthly SGDN.Students usergroup meetings on-location at the various tertiary institutions in Singapore).

I blame our communications authority for again delaying the second national operator, 8 years after the end of the monopoly.

Well I've still been checking in. But since the forum was fixed, I've not really been stuck with interesting problems. Besides silly ones and icelava's super advanced ones, there are also not many questions asked on the forum to reply to lately. :)

I agree that online forums have reached saturation. There are just too many of them and most of the time, people tend to go for the ones overseas simply because the pool of resources are greater there. But SGDN is a cool place. I dowanna see it fade into the shadows. C'mon guys, let's get it back into shape.

TechED 2006 is around the corner. It is a good time to revive the SGDN spirit!

Well, I have always been thinking how great it would have been if one day Singapore is able to host MS PDC for Asia region... Maybe collaborative effort between SGDN, Connection and Microsoft Singapore? I guess it would be more likely once all our MICE facilities, including the IR are up and running... It would have been a dream come true.

Smile Last year when TechEd was in Singapore, there was a community booth, in which SGDOTNET and several other UGs participated to create awareness. The response was good! I dun think this year there are similar community booth in TechEd SEA.

Bronkman,

It's my dream too to see PDC in Singapore Smile
For example, there was MIX06, and Singapore, we saw REMIX 06.

On a positive note, SGDN is already collaborating with MSDN Connections to host some events...

I'm glad that you all feel this way, but please do not depend on the council members to revive the community spirit, as the community does not consist of the council members, but you yourself. If you feel that the forum is stale, do think of topics to discuss, whether it is a problem, or some technical topics, like is sharepoint developers inferior to .net developers ;p

Council members are here only to facilitate the community, make sure infra is working, things like that. It is really up to you individuals to shape a warm community.

Just think of this. What makes a project interesting.

1. The project scope

2. The project lead

3. The project team members

Project scope can be interesting, but with lousy leaders or members, any interesting project can suck big time.

If project scope is lousy, a good project leader might make things slightly better, but it is really the fun loving team members that really can make a super boring project fun.

Best Regards, Kit Kai, MVP (SharePoint Portal Server)

I don't think anyone can just open up an online forum/site and just say to the users, "Nah! Go make it interesting". Similarly, you can't open a shop and expect customers to come without doing anything i.e. advertising (unless you sell damn good products).
