I have setup a traditional PPTP VPN connection in Windows Vista, and it appears that despite setting the VPN connection to a lower order of preference to the physical ethernet network, the OS defaults all traffic through the VPN connection. This was not the case back with Windows XP. Is there some additional setting that needs to be configured elsewhere?
