Hello,
I have a question regarding SharePoint Portal Server. Let's say if I host a Knowledge Management Portal on SharePoint Portal Server. My users will be peoples from all over the world accessing the SharePoint via Internet. What kind of CAL should I get? If I get the User CAL, I do not know how many users that will be registering to my KM Portal. If I get the external connector license , it will be too expensive for me to afford. Is there a processor CAL for SharePoint Portal Server? Where I get one single CAL for peoples all over the net to access? The portal is for charity purpose therefore I do not wish to spend so much $$ on it, it's not generating revenue. Is there any other alternatives? e.g using forms authentication with ASP.NET to 'avoid' active directory.
Anyone help me please.. thanks a lot
Chezzball, you need CAL license for your users within the organisation, and external connector license per server for internet users. For charity, you need to contact the account manager (if you have one) to get the actual pricing for charitable organisation. It is cheaper than listed price, but I don't have the figures.
Cheaper alternative is dotnetnuke, which I'm not familiar, or Windows SharePoint Server, with customisation using another search engine.
