I believe it is safe to say most of us don't give a hoot about security privileges when it comes to operating, developing, and testing on our own development workstations; we always log in with an Administrator account and obtain near-unlimited freedom is doing what we want with the system. I know I'm guilty of that, but I have my good reasons Wink

Well this is a security exercise: how to secure our very own doorstep, to minimize the privileges we typically have on the system so as to experience for ourselves how users will be using the programs we develop, as well as applying the ASR philosophy to our daily system use.

Here are some articles to step you through how to configure and prepare your system for development with a non-Administrator user account
Inform IT's How to Develop .NET Security Code as a Non-Admin
MSDN's Developing Software in Visual Studio .NET with Non-Administrative Privileges

The extent of this practical can only cover as far as your own machine; I am not planning network environment for this one (yet). So the hardware/software requirements is pretty simple - your own VS.NET workstation. Which you should have Administrator access first Smile

So how many people are actually interested in the Trustworthy Computing initiative? Wink

I estimate it will take 1-2 hours, if everybody goes right. I can do this any day; state your schedule.

Don't have to do this at my place for this one, although Internet access will then be a matter of concern.

First choice is still.... my house, of course. I'm lazy [|-)]

If you want somewhere closer to your house or workplace for convenience, that is possible. I believe i have more "mobility points".

This was thrown deep into the back of my mind during my reservist and all. Now I am ready to revist this experiment again.

I have even installed a test Windows XP image tied to a virtual domain controller in my lab (read: home). All that is left is to install VS.NET and configure it according to articles' instructions.

So who wants to try out this in hope of implementing it to your office environment? (honestly speaking, i know it's not many) I am looking to conduct this practical next month.

Ok chaps, some time within the next two weeks? Name your availabilities in the calendar; I may be engage into a full-time project by then so it is likely an after-dinner exercise.
