As some of you know, my father was dying from cancer. He has passed on on Sunday morning.
We managed to gather for our first activity three days prior, and there was an amount of interest to attempt installation on the Windows 2008 platform. I am all for this, but as I have matters to settle following the demise of my father, I would like somebody else to drive this activity.
Please discuss when and what you'd like to accomplish, and inform me of your plans. Thanks.

Please indicate if you are interested in installing on Windows 2008 this coming Saturday 28 Mar. I know some are high-discipline early-bird workers, but I think most wake up later on weekends (yours truly) ;-)
After lunch?
Icy, I'm not free this coming Saturday. I'll arrange another session for those who cannot make it this Saturday w/Icy, but it'll be on the week beginning 6th April, likely to be on Thursday 9th April.
Respond to this thread if you're keen to join my 'make-up' session.

Most folks have indicated this Saturday too early and not free. I think we can shift it to next week, joy?
Next week, i try to be there, once I finish up my pet project...

want a saturday or sunday?
so is there a demo or something? where? i am newbie but very interested as have prior expeirence on SQL server
iphanatic:so is there a demo or something?
Nope these are arrangements for practical sessions for the VSTS Activists focus group. We get our hands dirty to learn VSTS and TFS. It is not exactly SQL Server 2008 per se.
When is the next gathering Icy?
You free coming Friday, or weekend?
I was facing difficulty over the weekend with existing set of virtual Windows 2008 servers, had to re-provision from backup.
Thinking such a session should include the installation of SQL Server 2008, as it is markedly different from SQL Server 2005's installation procedure/experience. It is probably a good thing to have everybody install SQL Server 2008 as well.

As discussed, gathering (my house) to install on Windows Server/SQL Server 2008 will be on this Sunday morning 9am, 19 April.
Today's session notes are up. We encountered problems with SQL Server 2008 alone and were not able to get pass the System Health Check. Further investigation required to look into this matter.

LOL i found what the problem was. You will kick yourself. Tell you tomorrow.
When we took a log at the scan log file, we were all too focused on the reds - the error entries. There were plenty of yellows - warnings that did not seem to carry as much weight as the glaring errors.
But on reading the warnings, it suggested that remote access to the database server's WMI interfaces has to be opened as well. After giving WMI the Exception in Windows Firewall as well, the installation went through successfully.
Yes, and WSS 3.0 SP1 got installed automatically. This means Etienne Tremblay's attempt with Windows 2008 was at a time when TFS 2008 SP1 was not yet released to support proper installation on Windows 2008 and SQL Server 2008. So after slipstreaming the SP1 binaries, the installer was able to install it as WSS 3.0 SP1.
