    M1 Mobile Broadband goes unlimited

Don't know when this revision happened, but i just found out M1 has lifted the free-5GB cap and made it unlimited.

This is even greater news than when we made a subscription last month to give us mobile Internet coverage while on the move between customer sites. Means "remote-desktoping" to several distant machines should not be a concern now ;-)

Oh Wi-Max..... when forth thou shalt becometh ubiquitous?

If they had done that earlier, I might have taken up the plan. Now I recontracted my starhub maxonline. Sigh **

Yes we think that is a reactive measure to Starhub's Maxonline. Too bad you "responded" to Maxonline first. Starhub's plan is a 12-month subscription, i heard? The plus is, Starhub appears to use the Huawei E270 model which operates at 7.2Mbps; twice the 3.6Mbps rate of the M1's E220 model.

Ouch, did M1 get a sudden surge in subscribers after its announcement? When my colleague complaint the connection was really slow, I thought he was just not used that compared to land lines. Now that i have gotten the device back, the connection sustained barely pushes 1Kbytes/sec. It is horribly pathetically insulting - even a dial-up modem runs faster.

that problem must be location-dependent. i tried my friend's M1 last week and it worked OK, hitting in excess of 1 Mbps downstream most of the time. latency's worse than DSL and cable though (as expected). two weeks before that he lamented that he was only hitting around 300 Kbps.

I was able to get 300Kbps typically (for a 512Kbps plan), be it in a remote data centre or at Shenton Way. Was = last year. Unless, there is an uncontrolled proliferation of M1 mobile subscribers walking around Shenton Way this year. Now that I have moved out and testing this in Novena, it appears to be more responsive but nothing impressive about the speed still; pales in comparison to last year's service level.

I'm having problems sustaining a live connection with M1. Even though status is connected, I'm getting 0 transfer once in a while. Have to close the program, pull out the card and reconnect then it can re-establish the connection.

I'm just waiting for starhub to offer the PCMCIA card, and i'll switch back to maxonline, simply because i want my mobile to have broadband too... Yes, it is a premium, but much better to have two BOM (broadband on mobile) subscriptions.

The best value for money is actually SingTel... I would have used SingTel if I had a SingTel mobile line...

You referring to Broadband on Mobile? if you are using this with your existing SIM card on a PDA phone, how can you hook a laptop to the Internet? Internet experience even on a PDA is still lackluster for my purposes. Small browser window, limited browser capabilities, Outlook email, VPN, remote access of version control system; i still largely use my laptops for Internet access outdoors.

I check with all teleco. The coneection is location based. Mostly at major buildings where you could get wireless @SG. I found out all these after I sign 2 years contract with starhub Unlimted mobile. SAD. Felt being scam when the sales staff guarentee the speed. And btw is one access point to many. The more users connected, the lesser bandwidth you got.

I give up on wireless@sg... it is just simply not reliable and usable!

When are we at now? April? All these months and M1 has not ramped up its capacity for a consistent load handling. Some days I get the reasonable 300Kbps rate necessary for me to do my remoting work. But on many days it is more like a narrow-band dial-up modem of 30-40Kbps. Completely unbearable and unworkable. For anybody who wishes to constantly control remote desktops on the go outside, beware - M1 mobile is not for you. Be in Woodlands, Shenton Way, or Toa Payoh.
