signal strength of SingNet wireless router (2WIRE)

hi everyone Smile any of you SingNet DSL subscribers here? well I got the lowest one (1 Mbps) with the wireless router, and I noticed that it's got weak signal strength. Vista indicates only three bars lit out of five... anybody noticed this too? or did I get a dud wifi router from SingNet? thanks Smile

by the way I get that 3 out of 5 bars when the notebook is placed NEXT TO the wifi router! Stick out tongue when I move into my room (the wifi router is in the living room), it barely gets any signal already, and I get inundated by my neighbors' ESS IDs!

I get 2 to 4 bars, with the 2wire router on the 2nd storey while i reside on the 3rd. You may wanna tweak your adapters settings, but don't ask me what specifically as I don't read much into radio frequencies.

    Simple tips.

if i remember correctly, the radio energy emits and spreads in a bubble-like shape. You may be putting your computer in a blind spot by putting it too close.

actually i tried moving around, signal stays at 3 bars out of 5. maybe my SingNet-supplied router's a dud? i already repositioned the router near the center of the living room, away from walls. still the same. Sad

as i've mentioned, don't just look at one side....go get another notebook and see if it's the same signal strength you get.

See if this article helps. http://www.wirelessnetworkingacademy.com/learning_center/tutorials/Antennas_The_Key_to_Maximizing_RF_Coverage.htm

Also, check your wireless adapter hardware settings. Modern models tend to have a power range from conserving energy to full performance.
