virtual machine accessing host admin share causes CPU spin

I have a development server (Windows 2003) hosting another Windows 2003 using Virtual Server 2005. When i attempt to access a network admin share (e.g. e$) of the host machine from within guest machine, it will guarantee the CPU of the guest system throttles to full speed. In turn, the host system gets brought down to its knees as well.

If i attempt to "re-capture the castle" by logging into the console desktop (i usually attend to the server via RDC), i will be able to work with the security logon dialog but beyond that the screen goes blank. Blank as in DOS black with single blinking _ cursor. One that does not respond to Num/Caps lock activations. A reboot is in order.

    Does anybody face similar symptons?
