Specific letter to Microsoft Detractors, and a General Message to All

We are a community formed to pursue deeper and more intimate knowledge and understanding the .NET platform.

Like any other special interest or user groups, we have come together to share our knowledge in order to achieve the above.

Now that we have gotten our identity/purpose penned down, we'd like to focus on recent times where few individuals have been prowling our community and taken opportunities to insert Microsoft denigration. This is un-unique a phenomenon, as we can all attest to dozens of other sites/communities quite centred around delivering hatred to the company. But more importantly, it is not interesting and not educational. At all. We welcome free speech and opinions, but the typical statements made on a regular basis approaching tautology puts out very loud implications of the posters' intentions.

What exactly are their sincere (if any?) goals that they actually wish to accomplish by such posts? Do they even stop to check if they have actually gotten closer to their vision? It should be no surprise that most such individuals hail from the "open-source" camp, so if these "evangelistic" movements are supposed to form the basis of convincing people to completely switch their professions, the success rate of such marketing campaigns are doubtful to be high.

There's the old saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do.". There is very little point in approaching a Pocket PC user group and belittle all for not using a Palm OS. There is little to gain walking into a bus workshop and telling mechanics that they should get out and learn rotary-wing flight and start working on helicopters. There is little to achieve by annoying Formula1 drivers to throw the steering wheel away and hop on to MotoGP.

We really like freedom of expression, and it is good to learn things with perspectives only possibly seen by people from without the confines of the tighter community. Remember, even as we work with Microsoft products, it says nothing about blind 100% agreement to every thing and action that comes from them. Disagreement is fine, but the ones we appreciate are those that carry value, be it for or against the item at hand (not necessarily Microsoft alone). Stark comments of jaundice with no practically or economically useful ideas are really just that - zero worth. Instead of spending (wasting) time/energy on such trivial issues, it is better to dedicate them on the platform of one's choice to deliver amazing and inspirational works. Actions speak louder than words, after all. Do things that matter.

So let us be specific here: If we find anybody's online behaviour consistently directed towards the belligerent intent to provoke the community or the platform/language of their choice, we will not hesitate to ban membership.

The melody of logic will always play out the truth. ~ Narumi Ayumu, Spiral
