ActiveSync 4.5 Released

Just 2 days ago, Microsoft Launched the latest version of ActiveSync, ActiveSync 4.5 which could be downloaded at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx

However, if you're using Vista, then this does not apply to you.

Honestly, I've no idea what's the difference, except the newer UI. =)

Google Romances the World

This valentine's day, Google decide to romance the world by giving out free gmail accounts to everyone. Yes, it's true, you no longer need to request for an invite before you can sign up for a gmail account. (source: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/technologynews/view/258937/1/.html)

So if you want a gmail account now, go to http://mail.google.com/mail/signup to sign up for you free account. =)

I don't know about the rest, but I'm using GMail and had been using it ever since. Free POP3, no crazy UI that suck up bandwidth. Really neat. Well, for me, when I access my mail, speed is more important then the UI. Well, that's just me.

OpenXML Slides

I would be presenting at the Singapore Office UserGroup this coming Tuesday. Haha... As I'm trying to get into the habit of getting stuff done early, my slides are ready, far beyond the presentation itself. I'd keep up this habit to the best of my ability. :)

The biggest launch Microsoft has done for the past 10 years, since the advent of Windows 95, is happening again. If you haven't already caught launch fever, it's happening at Funan Centre the past weekend and coming again in March at Suntec City. I'm talking about the worldwide consumer launch of Windows Vista and Office 2007.

SGOG is participating in some of the activities, and our programme this month (and for the past few sessions) incorporate many of the new products in Vista and Office System 2007.

Event : Singapore Office User Group, Feb 2007
Venue : Microsoft, One Marina Boulevard, Level 22CF-12
Time : 1845h - 2045h

Agenda :
1845h    Opening up the New Office File Format with OpenXML - Darren Sim, MVP ASP .NET

Darren is the champion of ASP and .NET programming with many public sessions for not just students but budding developers. Widely recognised as an XBOX and PC game developer, his passion is also in unlocking the potential of Microsoft products for the daily user. In his session, he’ll cover the new openXML concept for Office 2007 documents and what it means for the day to day running of an organization.

His demonstrations will include accessing data in Office documents via Visual Studio tools (VSTO) in Office 2007, programming simply plug –ins for Office 2007.

1930h    Break (Refreshments provided)
1945h    What's the buzz about SharePoint 2007: an End User's Perspective - Tan Tian-An, MVP Office Systems

We have seen the broad overview of SharePoint 2007 Beta 2 in our June 2006 session by Bernard Tham, an MS Technical Specialist. Now that's its officially launched, let's revisit the Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) and take a closer in depth look at what's under the hood, its  various components and technologies.

I'll showcase the various new sites types available and it's powerful capabilities for collaboration and expanding the resources and tools available to the modern office worker.

Once again, register for the event by sending an email to tianan@mvps.org to confirm your attendance at this event before Sunday 11 Feb. I’ll send confirmed attendees a friendly reminder a day before the event. Registration is FREE.

Full event details at http://sgofficegroup.org/cs/forums/110/ShowThread.aspx#110. You will have to log in to view the post.

I also have 5 copies of Office 2007 Professional 60 day trial to give away on a first-come-first-served basis.

Regards,
Tan Tian-An
President and Founder, SGOG
