A related problem I have seen is where people defining a system focus on the process and not what's actually needed: "the purpose of the design phase is to produce the design document". But it isn't - the real purpose is to produce the design.

- Build

- Deployment

- Environment

- Requirements (in case any of them violate any of their 'terrain')

However, building architects will be less concern over the color of the door or windows within an apartment unit. That would be the role of the interior designer; In our case the software designer.

[/quote]

Correct, the architect defines the "big blocks". The designer defines the medium-to-small blocks.

However, building architects will be less concern over the color of the door or windows within an apartment unit. That would be the role of the interior designer; In our case the software designer.

I think building architects have to at least ensure that their artistic architecture comply with basic civil engineering principle. :-)

Architecture very much has an artistic aspect to it. While they do have such training (and should apply these knowledge), what you described are the primary job of civil engineers; they have to ensure architects do not go overboard with their grandoise and visionary and extravagant art, and defy the laws of physics and geology. Some really design like they don't live on planet Earth.
