Offline Folder in Exchange

As I've left my previous company, I still have many emails (personal/work/community) still parked in my Exchange offline folder. On the fateful day, I've decided to remove my Exchange account from my Outlook 12 and it proved to be a mini-nightmare for me. But of cos, the .ost file cannot be opened unless you have an exchange account set up, and for my case, my exchange account with my previous company ceased to exist. Googling around returned some possiblities, albeit with cost involved just to convert a single .ost to .pst (personal folder) file. Finally, some nice soul (apologies, I cannot recall the url and can't give the proper credit to the person posting the solution) suggested using "System Restore", to rewind to a timeline before the fatal mouse click to remove the Exchange account. Yes, it saved the day and I managed to recover all my mails...

It seems System Restore can do much more than I think it can.
