Synchronisation of files using Groove, Part 1

Synchronisation of folders between multiple computers is very easy. All you need is a file sharing workspace. There are two ways of doing that, but I'm only going to share with you the easier one.

1. Browse to the folder that you want to share.

2. Right click on the folder, and select "Groove Folder Synchronization" -> "Start synchronization"

3. Click "Yes" when Groove asked you to confirm the synchronization

You should be seeing a small window informing you that Groove is preparing to synchronize the files, and all you need to do now, is to invite other people, or ask your other computer into the workspace, or invite other people.

In normal circumstances, you should be using the same account for multiple computers, as you can ask groove to add workspaces you created on one computer to the rest of your computer automatically. But if you need to add the workspaces manually, there are two ways to do it.

From your host computer

1. Open up your Groove LaunchBar

2. Right click on the workspace and select "Invite My Other Computers". If you right click the same workspace again, you should see a tick beside "Invite My Other Computers".

3. Go to your other laptop, and you should be able to see the workspace on your Groove LaunchBar.

From your target computer

1. Open up your Groove LaunchBar

Workspaces that are not downloaded to this computer are listed under "Not on This Computer", and are grey in color.

2. Right click on the workspace and select "Get Workspace"

3. At the lower right hand corner of your screen, Groove is informing you that Groove is downloading the workspace.

Common Instructions

The following instructions apply to both methods.

4. After a while, Groove will inform you that the workspace is ready to be opened. But this window will disappear after a while, even if you don't do anything about it.

5. Click on the workspace to open it.

Groove will ask you to decide two things.

- Where to create the folder

- Download optoins.

Decide what works best for you and click OK. Groove will then start the actual synchronization, and you are set!

If you want to share your files with other people, read about it here.

# Using Groove to Synchronise@ Saturday, January 20, 2007 1:07 AM

I have a personal T42 laptop that I love very much, and I used it for almost everything, even for work

Can't seem to get this to work on Vista 64. I assume this is in regards to File Sharing not working on 64 bit OS with Groove. That sucks!!
