March 2006 - Posts

One morning last week (16th march ... I think), I was shocked when I stepped into my recently upgraded lift..... the cover for the lift control panel is GONE.......

Initially I thought that it was the work of some repair man...But in the evening when I was back from work...

Guess what I saw... (see photos below, Lift A and Lift B)... someone have patched the lost lift control panel with a wooden plank. Quite "neatly" done right? not quite pro.

Who is the donkey who has stolen both my lift's control panel cover!!! They were so new!!! Must have fetch him some good money in the second hand market!!

Well, this was NOT the first time, such things happened to this estate b4... The previous incident was the sign boards at the multi-storey car park stolen. I believe is the same donkey!

Fortunately on 22th march, the lost lift cover was being replaced. (election coming mah.... so the town council is trying to show their presence.. hee)

Now, I can only hope that the donkey will not do it again to this estate, and hope that police will find that culprit quickly and LOCK HIM up. If not,  I might lose my entire lift!!! Arrghhh!!!

This is an update on my experience trying out Windows Defender (Beta 2). Finally, it has given up defending my machine.

INVALID POINTER!!! All the dotnet gurus, is this managed code?

I have no choice, but to uninstall it. :(

Read more about what Microsoft top 10 challenges for 2006 are:

Wonder how well will the mighty Microsoft deals with all these challenges.

Finally got the chance to play with the networking function of Pocket PC.

What I was trying to do it connect to external network via VPN.

I managed to got it to work and tested the networking connection using this free tool : VXUtil, which comes with ping, ipconfig, dns lookup and many many more basic network utilities.

However, there are still something that I was not able to figure out:

  • unable to map to a network drive using Resco Explorer
  • how to fix an IP of a Wifi connection

Any Pocket PC (WM5) geeks around?

Finally cleared the "Accesskey is too long" error when deploying SharePoint 2003 with SQL 2005.

In order for the sharepoint backup to work, we need to install SQL 2005 Workstation component on the Sharepoint server.

But, we had this "Accesskey is too long" error after this installation sequence:

  1. SQL 2005 server - workstation component
  2. Windows SharePoint Service with SP2
  3. SharePoint Server 2003
  4. SharePoint Server 2003 SP2
  5. "Accesskey is too long" error occur, when accessing the Central Admin page :(

Eventually, we learnt from Kit Kai and a Sharepoint newsgroup posting that the problem lies on Central Admin site is trying to run on ASP .Net 2.0 framework, which was installed when installing SQL 2005 component.

At this stage, we are not able to switch to ASP 1.01 framework from IIS.. as there is no such option. Instead, we literally went thr the entire installation process again.

So here is the working installation sequence:

  1. Windows SharePoint Service with SP2
  2. SharePoint Server 2003
  3. SharePoint Server 2003 SP2
  4. SQL 2005 server - workstation component

Spot the difference?

What a lesson learnt!
