SearchDotnet - a site for .NET Developers

Found this site when I was watching the latest DnrTV Scott Hanselman's video. Nice stuff.

http://www.searchdotnet.com/

This site utilizes google search and only customize to any info related to .NET Technology.

Well I tested it out a bit. I entered "linux" word inside the textbox. Hmmm... I could still find some linux results that had no relations to .NET though...

Example,

Linux / Unix / BSD Forum - Community Site Map

Linux, Unix and BSD administration and support help. Post your Linux, Unix and BSD questions in this forum.

Maxis Postpaid Background Music ... Interesting

Check this out... http://bgm.musicunlimited.com.my/index.jsp?r=8438

Only applicable to Maxis end users like me :) I am quite supportive to Maxis. Just a bit of my mobile history ...

My 1st mobile account was Celcom back in year 2000. Then I believed that I switched to Hotlink prepaid (under Maxis) somewhere year 2002. Then I switched to Maxis postpaid in year 2006 after my friends at Microsoft Malaysia complained ... haha coz I eventually asked them to call me most of the time :( shy shy...

Now by calling someone, the person I call including myself can hear the same background music. Nice. I bought the elvis presley music under Tone ID 100109. The music is kinda romantic hope the gals will not misunderstand.

Cool :)

Scratch - A free programming tool for kids

This is definitely interesting tool for kids who want to learn how to animated stories, basic games and interactive artworks http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6647011.stm

Good stuff :) Furthermore based on that article, it would be free of charge.

If someone can do the similar stuff meant for .NET will be great for kids. Less complex and real simple stuff like Scratch. Furthermore from the video, it looks real fun to play with.

Visual Studio 2005 - Improve IDE's Refactoring with ScottGu's Tip

I know I am kinda outdated on this. I had been facing numerous problems and frustrations on Visual Studio 2005 refactoring especially when I try to change a file inside my project. It will actually call the Rename refactoring for this.

It crashes my IDE most of the time especially when it tries to prepare the necessary files to refactor.

Take note, you will only face this kind of frustration when you are working on a large solution with many projects inside it.

Like I said I was kinda outdated, so I decided to google and see whether I could disable this Visual Studio 2005 Refactoring things. I came to this amazing tip from ScottGu, you rocked man :)

It works fine on Windows Vista Ultimate even ScottGu blogged on this last January 2006.

http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2006/01/02/434355.aspx

Now my refactoring is like super fast + no more painless preparing :) Thanks ScottGu.

** There is definitely one problem with this method. You will always get a Verification Result with a Compile Error thing. I choose to ignore this as I know the technique above is not 100% perfect but it works great though.

XBOX 360 at office - 1st to hands on it :)

I am proud to able to hands on this piece of hardware XBOX 360 in Mesiniaga for the very 1st time. Why 1st time? There wasn't any consoles in Mesiniaga where the employees really tried it out. We had 5 games with us but just 1 control.

Basically earlier today it was a trial run to make sure this machine worked fine. We will have another trial run tomorrow as my team lead will bring 2 more controls so we can play more players. More fun :) Only to the Microsoft Team in Mesiniaga on this trial run. Thanks to the management support as well as MSRC Club in Mesiniaga.

We tested Needs for Speeds: Carbon, Gears of Wars and Project Gotham 3. 2 more games - Rainbow Six: Vegas and Planet .. (can't remember that name)

Check out the pictures below:

Figure 1: Needs for Speeds: Carbon

Figure 2: My 2 Malay colleagues. They were quite good. Better than me :( No No

Figure 3: Closer look at the Xbox 360 consoles. Not elite version but very cool already :)

Figure 4: Cool graphics. Running the game on the projector. Of course running this in HDTV is even better.

ASP.NET 2.0 – ValidatorOnLoad “Microsoft Javascript runtime error: ‘null’ is null or not an object”

Why will you see such a ValidatorOnLoad JavaScript problem from your application? I cannot say that this error will only appear in this situation that I am talking about. But I do believe many of you are not aware of doing the things right or maybe you are aware because you read it online about that but not sure what is the cause of the problem by using the wrong way? It definitely compiles properly in Visual Studio 2005.

Let me dive into this 1st screen.

What is the problem here? Looks okay to many HTML developers.

However when you run your application which will cause server postback, you will notice that you get a weird JavaScript ValidatorOnLoad problem. At first you will assume that someone in your team has coded this new Function, ValidatorOnLoad. But actually it is generated on the fly when you run your application.

Let’s see the problem as below.

Now there are only 2 ways to solve this problem.

1) Comment properly using <%-- --> instead of <!-- -->

2) Remove that piece of code directly

See the screen as below for the right way. The image is being sliced a bit. It is actually enclosed as <%-- -->

Hope you find this useful J

JavaFX - something interesting to know about

Guys this JavaFX is quite a cool technology to look at. I am not really on the Java technology for quite some time. It really amazed me when I read about this here "Does JavaFX Spell the end of AJAX?" http://www.internetnews.com/dev-news/article.php/3676226

The only problem I hate about this is

"The language offers interactivity, animation and programming consistent with AJAX, Adobe's Flash and Microsoft's new Silverlight technology, but employs the Java runtimes installed on your local client instead of clumsy JavaScript. "

Well it needs to use Java runtime for this. Honestly speaking I try to avoid install JRE in my Windows Vista hehe. I am not sure whether it is pre-installed though hmmm.

Looking forward to r&d on this piece of technology.

MIND May 2007 - ASP.NET AJAX and Ink

This Saturday MIND will have one of the interesting sessions on AJAX and Ink.

Yes we have AJAX sessions before, but this time it is different.

http://mind.com.my/blogs/latestnews/archive/2007/04/30/MIND-Gathering-_2D00_-5th-May-2007.aspx

We have 2 great speakers on AJAX.

a) Mr. Omar, PageFlakes. As you know in the Web 2.0 Start Page category award, PageFlakes won 1st over both Google and Microsoft. He will be sharing on how to build an AJAX Start Page in 1 hour. Very cool.

b) Mr. Justin Lee from Singapore. He had spoken in MIND in a number of sessions. Looking forward on his session as he will be sharing on the Common Problems on AJAX Web Applications.

Thanks Guys and great to have both of you in Malaysia on the right timing.

Last but not least, Mr. Amrith, AccelTeam speaking on Improving Productivity with Ink. This will be more on the Tablet PC platform.

Looking forward to see you guys this Saturday.
