Trip to KLAquaria - Poor Sharks kept in the Aquarium

I always dream to go to Sentosa Island, Singapore to see sharks (other than watching
The Jaws Movie series). I never want to see a real shark in real life. It is quite
frightening.
There is still a promotion before National Day 31st August 2005.
Normal Rate
Adult: RM 38.00
Promotion Rate
Adult: RM 20.00

I used my Nokia 6680 to take the pictures. The pictures quality was pretty bad. I
recommend you to view in small resolutions.
The place is quite small. I think you will take around 30 - 45 minutes walking around
the place.
You can park your car in KLCC as KLCC is connected to the Convention Centre. The pathway
is beside Burger King.
Overall is fun and I enjoyed it.
Below is the list of pictures.

Differences: Intellectual Property, Copyright, Patent and Trademark

Differences: Intellectual Property, Copyright, Patent and Trademark

Basically I had a chat with my girlfriend regarding this issue. I was so embarrassed that I did not know how to provide my opinion on this issue?

Now I did some googling and state the brief differences in a table as below.

Intellectual Property

Copyright

Patent

Trademark

-          Allows people to own their creativity and innovation in the same way that they own their physical property.

-          Intellectual Property is categorized into 4 main types: Copyright, Patent, Designs and Trademark.

-          Targeted for Materials

-          Protects original works of expressions (e.g. novels, software, video) by preventing people from copying or commercially exploiting them without the copyright’s owner permission

-          Targeted for Inventions

-          Allows the creator of certain kind of inventions that contain new ideas to keep others from making commercial use of those ideas without the creator’s permission for limited period of time

-          Targeted for brand identity

-          Protects distinctive (e.g. words, phrases, logo) used identify and distinguish products or services in marketplace.

*Copyright and trademark may be used to protect different aspects of the same product.

-          e.g. protects artistic aspects of the logo used by a business to identify its goods or services

-          Eric invents a new type of cryptography that allows flexible and improved speed performance. He is allow to monitor people who product, distribute, sell or use the cryptography algorithm. Nicholas, a 3rd party vendor is not allowed to use this algorithm without Eric’s permission.

*Copyright and trademark may be used to protect different aspects of the same product.

-          e.g. protects the logo from use by others in a confusing manner in the marketplace

GData: An online MD5 Hash Database

This is something interesting to look at.

http://gdataonline.com/

There is a MD5 Hash Calculator. Cool! I tried my name and below was the result.

Hash

I am not so sure what is hash look up / md5 cracker? ... hmm :(
Extracted from the site:

Info:

GData was started by Gravix as just a project to kill time. It started off as a collection
of hashes from 2 dictionaries: TheArgon (albeit cropped) and GDict (Gravix's personal
dictionary). The hashes were set up in patterns to allow for faster access time
(literally over 60000 times faster than a normal hash database). It later grew and includes
CrackLib and all languages from swedish to japanese. When it was originally posted, the database
contained a whopping 5.65 million unique entries weighing in at just over 200 mb. The
unexpected popularity of the project led its founder to create a website dedicated to
it: GDataOnline.com.

Extracted from the Author's site:

Q: You know you’re not going to break MD5, why have this site?
A: This site isnt about breaking MD5, its about proving that a common person could defeat
the use of MD5 for password protection. When I say common person, I mean a person who dosnt
have unlimited storage and dosnt have an ultra computer.

Cool!

MSIL - Round Tripping concept

I learned this concept from Inside Microsoft .Net IL Assembler book by Serge Lidin.
Managed Assembly (exe, dll) -- Disassemble (ildasm) -->
Assembly.il (Intermediate Language IL) --> Modify the IL --> Assemble (ilasm) -->
Modified Assembly (exe, dll) = Round Tripping
Cheers.

Standard ECMA-335 CLI June 2005

I just downloaded this specification and tried my best to understand:
Partition II: Metadata Definition and Semantics
Partition III: CIL Instructions Set
You can download it here http://www.ecma-international.org/publications/standards/Ecma-335.htm
It is so hard core. I don't quite understand. But I think I will have to force myself to
digest these 2 partitions.
Anyone has digested it before? Hehe!

Failed to obtain Certicom's Security Builder Crypto C#

What a day? I just received an email from Kate, a representative of Certicom and failed
to obtain an evaluation toolkit from them.
I want to further my research on Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) and place
a special section in my E-book.
I got to know ECC implementation through my current project at work. For more info on ECC, please check
my E-Book in a short while. I did some research on this for a while. :P
Maybe I have to write my own custom ECC classes. I will give it a try.

Block Checker - do not install this!

Dear all,
Please do not install this program Block Checker from http://www.block-checker.com/!
It contains virus in it. No spyware but trojan virus AdClicker-DF.
It automatically generates random files in my system32 folder and sends the Block Checker's URL
to everyone in my MSN list!
For more info on this trojan, check this

  Thank you.
Cheers.

A Beginner Approach to Software Security

Hi,
I had started to write my 1st ebook titled "A Beginner Approach to Software Security".
  I plan to take 1 - 2 years to write this e-book.
There is not much information yet in this revision 1 of the e-book. It contains simple information
about Cryptography and some diagrams drawn by me.
This book is meant to be straightforward. I hope to get the right message to the crowd. So you
will expect the contents to be point forms.
It will take a lot of time to write specific articles. Anything that interests me on Software Security
will be written down to this ebook.
I am new to the Security World. There are much more to be learned and experience. Hope you can forgive
me if I have any wrong understanding on certain areas.
You can download the e-book here http://pickup.mofile.com/7677647359634865
I wonder whether SgDotNet can provide me a place where I can upload this document.
I plan to write bits by bits each day.
The structure of the e-book will be something like below:
a)      What is the concept?
b)      How is this concept applied in the real world?
c)      Any real world examples?
d)      Advantages and Disadvantages using this concept.
e)      .Net Examples (C# only) based on .Net 1.1 or 2.0 (I am targeting 2.0)
This e-book serves as my personal reference and if possible to other people as well.
  Thank you.
Cheers.

A New Start to Software Security

I had made a number of considerations to get myself focus on a particular field.
Why I choose Security? I had made some attempts in the past on Software Security.
I believe it will be a good time for me to continue to write about Security.
It can be related to cryptography, obfuscations, decompilations, cracking software and others.
I am interested with software security and really hope to learn more about it.
By blogging, I can gain back my confidence to proceed writing more articles and presentations.
I am open to any feedback towards my blog’s post.
Thank you.
