I wonder if it is beneficial to write the document in DocBook format so that the resultant document is much more structured than Word. DocBook format can also be transformed using xslt and rendered using different renderers to produce most common outputs (html, pdf, etc) : this investment would aid a lot for future "copy and paste".

DocBook format is quite verbose (due to xml), although any text editor is possible but a special one (with xml support) is definitely recommended.
